240MW now available on the electricity grid
The Nachtigal hydroelectric facility's Unit n°4 is commissioned since the 18th of November 2024. This new milestone confirms the injection of an additional 60MW into the Southern Interconnected Grid, bringing to 240MW the power generated so far by Nachtigal.
As a reminder, the facility includes 7 Units, with a capacity of 60MW each, and the first 3 Units were respectively delivered in June, Augut and September 2024. When fially commissioned, Nachtigal will have an installed capacity of 420MW and will supply 30% of the Cameroon Southern Interconnected Network's electricity needs.
Soon 300MW available
The project is 97% complete, and works are ongoing involving a strong mobilization of teams on the commissioning of the 3 remaining Units.
Unit n°5 entered the commissioning phase at the beginning of November, and its first turns of runner took place on the 15th of November. Tests will continue throughout November, with delivery scheduled for December. Units n°6 and n°7 are also well on the way to completion, and the NHPC's obective remains to deliver all the Units by the beginning of 2025, thereby improving the supply of electricity in Cameroon with green, available and competitive energy.
