Organized by the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), these public hearings, held from May 4 to 9, 2026, made the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report available for free consultation by all individuals, communities, and territories affected by the Kikot-Mbebe hydroelectric dam project.
During this campaign, reading rooms were opened in the premises of the municipal authorities of localities within the project's direct influence area, namely the communes of Nyanon, Bot-Makak, Nguibassal, and Monatélé. Mobile caravans also visited villages impacted by the dam construction, including Bongo and Yangben, where meetings had been held to search for sites for environmental impact compensation. In all these locations, copies of the ESIA report were made available, allowing residents and interested parties to review it and record their observations in MINEPDED registers. KHPC representatives ensured the company's presence at all reading rooms to provide clarifications necessary for a proper understanding of the Project and the contents of the ESIA report.
It should be recalled that these public hearings aim to collect all observations from affected publics regarding the environmental and social impacts identified under the Project's implementation. They constitute an essential step in the consultation process required by Cameroonian regulations for the protection of the environment and communities located within the dam project's area of influence.
