At the initiative of KHPC, the third annual workshop with CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) was held on May 13 in Yaoundé. Among the thirty organizations that had participated in previous meetings, new entities were also present, along with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Central Africa Sub-Regional Bureau, attending as an observer. The discussions focused on presenting the project’s progress, reviewing recommendations from the 2024 workshop, and addressing CSOs’ concerns regarding the implementation of the Kikot-Mbebe hydroelectric development, among other topics.
Additionally, three organizations presented reports based on their respective activities in the Project area. RECTRAD’s presentation highlighted a study conducted on preserving the sociocultural and ancestral heritage of affected communities, while GDA showcased its analysis of the grievance and complaint management mechanism established by KHPC. GVC’s intervention centered on a film produced to raise awareness among impacted individuals about the proper use of compensation funds they are set to receive.
Christophe AVOGNON, KHPC’s CEO, expressed satisfaction with the quality of dialogue during the workshop, praising such initiatives for strengthening collaboration among all key stakeholders involved in this major Project.
